The Latest Design Trends For 2021

The design world is always changing. Despite that, certain themes have withstood the test of time better than others. Below we will show you the most important design trends that can be expected in 2021.

Brown is making a comeback

Our designers agree on one thing: brown is making a huge comeback in 2021. But not a dull, monotonous brown throughout your home, there are a lot of variations with beiges, taupes, and sands all gaining popularity. In fact, earthy tones in general will be more popular this year.

Although many people still adore gray, many now combine this color with brown undertones. This helps to make the final product look less industrial and sterile.

Rustic vogue

This look will appeal to everyone who loves a modern home but who also wants to infuse their living spaces with some character detail. It works well in homes that already boast a couple of interesting features, such as paneled walls, original floorboards, or exposed beams.

Rustic vogue can, however, also be recreated with a carefully selected blend of new and old pieces that complement each other. The core material that holds all this together is reclaimed wood. Try to find one-of-a-kind pieces that show lots of texture and grain instead of something that has a factory-finished look.

Lighter wood

While wood has never gone out of style, the popularity of specific tones often changes over time. This year super-light wood tones will be particularly popular, while the darker mahoganies and walnuts will take backstage for now.

In the kitchen, light wood floors, cabinets and details are increasingly popular. Light wood flooring is particularly popular, with white oak and French oak being in high demand. Organic wood tones in both bathrooms and kitchens are among 2021’s favorites.

Natural materials

While factory-finished surfaces are known for their easy maintenance and durability, nothing can compete with the feel and look of natural materials such as wood, marble, polished nickel, and brass.

A good example of this would include a kitchen with French oak cabinets, a marble backsplash, and a quartzite countertop. Although when it comes to aging, these pieces might be somewhat vulnerable, it is always possible to bring them back to life.

Handmade will continue to be popular

Handcrafted items will remain as popular as ever in 2021. What will change is that handmade tiles will become great favorites. These tiles highlight small variations and quirks in texture. This gives even something as mundane as a white square tile a character and personality of its own.

An example of where this will work particularly well is for a backsplash in your kitchen. But it can also look great in any space that looks dull and needs a bit of character. And don’t stop at wall tiles – handmade floor tiles will add character to any room.
