Say Hello to a Custom Look with Color! by Brooke Eversoll, AKBD

I was fortunate to attend an amazing Fine Arts college in Sarasota. I remember very distinctly when one of my college instructors told me I had a good eye for “color”. That observation has stuck with me all these years and am so excited I am able to translate those same principles of color into home design.

Homeowners come to us to renovate for many reasons: water damage, expanding their square footage, better use of storage, more modern conveniences, and above all…a new look for their home. Kitchens and bathrooms, like many other areas of our world are driven by Fashion. And where there is fashion, there is Color. I feel there were all too many homes of the 80’s, 90’s and even 2000’s that were constructed with beige from floor to ceiling. Many builders did this to appeal to the mass crowd. I think as our world continues to change, homeowners want a space that is more unique and one-of-a-kind. Something that no one else has, like an original piece of Art.

With the amazing and broad range of product offerings now, a custom colorful space is easily achievable! Countertops, painted cabinet finishes, appliances, sinks, tile….don’t even get me started on tile. The world is our oyster! Let’s have some fun….

To the left is an example of some colorful Oceanside Glasstile in soft ocean colors for a Master Bathroom of a waterfront home.

To the right is an example of a beautiful painted finish by Omega cabinetry, called Blue Lagoon. Notice the clients painted blue niche in the background. This blue island complimented her house beautifully. The first photo with the blue glass cabinet doors is the same kitchen.

Here are two more examples of colorful tile.

The left bathroom features tile from Oceanside Glasstile for a tropical pool bathroom.

The one on the right features Bisazza tile for a hip teen’s bathroom (notice the coordinating glass cabinet knobs).

I have started introducing more and more color explosions into kitchens and bathrooms. From little shimmery glass tiles, to a red sink, a blue painted island, colorful accent cabinet glass. I love a client that is not afraid of color.

And let me clarify, although color can be bold and daring, it can also be soft spoken and calm. Color doesn’t have to be overwhelming, but it can be a great way to personalize your space.

To the left is a Asian inspired Red Armoire made out of cabinet parts and doors from Omega and accented with unique hardware and antique mirror. This armoire houses three Sub-Zero refrigerators too!

Below is a more subtle approach: a simple slab Alder cabinet door with a fun glass and slate backsplash for a client who loves green.

I think it is time to think outside the color wheel and let’s get creative! Happy designing everyone! 🙂
