However, we were thrilled when our clients approached us about renovating a historic beachfront building in St. Pete Beach with a colorful background tied to WWII!
A Historic Home Renovation with a Special Story
The building was originally built to serve as nurses quarters during WWII when the Don Cesar was being used as a military hospital. It was purchased by the U.S. Army to be used as a sub-base hospital, then a convalescent center for airmen returning from their WWII tour.
In fact, when they first moved into the condo several years ago, there was still a telephone booth in their unit from that era!
This historic gem is only 403 square feet. The couple wanted a space that was manageable and appropriate for them as they got older.
Topping out at 5ft, the wife is very petite and her husband is over 6ft tall! He wanted to make sure the space was built for her to have easy access to storage designed with the feminine aesthetic that she loves.
We designed the condo with aging in place principles in mind to ensure that the couple would be comfortable and safe as they aged.
Designer Victoria Pratt tells us she enjoys remodeling small, older spaces. She lives in a 100 year old bungalow herself, so this was her sweet spot. Learning all about the history behind the space was so special as well as designing a space that would serve the couple as they aged. She calls this style “Vintage Beach” and tells us that she had so much fun designing this beautiful gem with her sweet clients.
