Five Things You Should Do After Your Remodel

Congratulations! You have just made some major improvements to your dream home or office, and you can’t wait to start using the space! You may be wondering what you need to do now that the tools are put away and the builders have gone home. Keep reading for five important things that need to be done after your remodel!

Have a Final Walkthrough

Don’t let your contractor just pack up and leave with your hard-earned money without taking a final look at the project with them. If the person you hired is the real deal, you most likely already had a detailed contract made up before the project began. Make sure to bring a copy of this work contract with you during your final assessment so that you can compare it to what has been done. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you notice any issues! Go over the contract with the builder so everyone is on the same page. Take notes on anything important so you have everything in writing if things come into question further on down the road.

Register Your Warranties

Don’t let your warranties expire, or you may end up paying for it in the long run when you need something fixed. Remodels may come with a lot of new equipment, so keep track of everything that has a warranty and get them registered on time. Most of these can be done online in a few simple steps, so if you are short on time or have a lot of things to remember, this may be the easiest route to take.

Get in Contact with Your Insurance Company

Most of us can agree that no one likes to talk about insurance, but we must admit that it’s a necessary evil if you want to protect your investments. Make sure to touch base with your home insurance agent to update your policy as soon as possible. If your remodel includes any safety updates, ask your agent about any discounts that may be applicable. Also, be sure to check if you need a city assessor to come out and look at the property before you make any changes to your policy! This will save you a lot of headaches in the future if you stay proactive.

Educate Yourself

Got some fancy new flooring or countertops, but don’t know how to take care of them? Many materials, such as hardwood flooring or marble require special cleaners or techniques to keep them shiny and new. Double-check to make sure that you know everything that is needed to know about protecting your investment. Ask your contractor for advice, but don’t be afraid to look elsewhere for answers as well. To be on the safe side, it’s always smart to make a list of everything that needs special maintenance so that you can refer to it later. (It’s also important to remember that some warranties will be forfeit if you do not follow the correct maintenance requirements!) If you want to stay organized, keep all your maintenance, warranty, and insurance information together so that you have everything available if you need it.

Go Crazy with Interior Design

Okay, so you want your space to look nice, but maybe you don’t have any clue what you want when it comes to fashion and design. Good thing there are people out there who do! Research some of your local interior designers and shop around for the best deals. Your new house or office deserves to look nice, doesn’t it?
