One of the biggest perks of living in an older home in a historic area like Winter Park, Florida is the unique character and charm. However, at some point, key rooms like the kitchen and bathrooms will need to get updated. Our team of professional designers have lots of experience renovating older homes while maintaining the original charm and character.
Keep reading to see how we helped this homeowner give her small kitchen a much needed makeover!
The kitchen was a small, dark closed off space and the client had been thinking about remodeling the kitchen for a long time. She knew she had to address the functionality because the kitchen was outdated and wasn't serving her needs.
We love collaborating with our clients to bring their visions to life and this remodel was no different. Our client had multiple Pinterest boards she had been saving with kitchen design inspiration. S&W Designer Mary Burkhammer was thrilled to combine that inspiration with her own guidance to develop a beautiful and functional kitchen design that checked all the boxes!
There are always surprises when the demo starts, but we worked to mitigate potential issues prior to moving forward.
For example, during the initial planning stage, we weren't able to determine if the wood flooring ran underneath the cabinets. The client’s husband even used a jigsaw to open the bottom of the cabinet to try to see, but it wasn't until demo started that we were able to confirm that the flooring did not run under the cabinets. Then, we discovered the electric that they thought had been capped wasn’t electric at all, but a blank outlet cover with no electric running to it!
There are always surprises, particularly with older homes, but with prompt communication and thoughtful suggestions, everything can be resolved! Our clients were thrilled with the final design and are loving their brand new kitchen.
